Let's Talk About Acne Rosacea

Acne Rosacea is a condition of the facial skin that affects about 15% of my patients. Some of my patients have the more obvious symptoms of facial redness, pimples, visible blood vessels and thickened bumpy skin. However, most of my patients have milder symptoms - which makes it more challenging to diagnose.

Although Acne Rosacea doesn't have an official cure, my patients and I appreciate a more natural way to manage the facial condition:

  1. Avoid facial redness triggers such as heat, alcohol, caffeine, spicy foods and high-impact exercise. No fun, right?
  2. This is an easy one. Protect your face from the sun. So stock up on your SPF, and buy that hat & those designer sunglasses you could never financially justify. Call it doctor's orders.
  3. Tone down the redness by using green tinted concealear or makeup. Yes, I said it. Green.

When Acne Rosacea starts affecting the eyes, it's called Ocular Rosacea – that's when my optometrist brain really has to step in. Eyelids become red, itchy, swollen & irritated. So not fun. Or sexy.

When it comes to Ocular Rosacea, demodex mites is the first diagnosis that comes to my mind. Yes, mites. Again the more natural approach wins. I have my patients use the We Love Eyes Tea Tree Eyelid Scrub Kit every night. Use the cleansing oil to scrub all 4 eyelids with a q-tip, and then use the foaming cleanser as a final wash for the entire face. Because, tea tree oil is awesome.

Love + Healthy Eyes,
